My spouse doesn’t want to file. Can I file by myself?

Sometimes, only one person in a marriage needs to file for bankruptcy protection.  What happens to the non-filing spouse?  This scenario arises most often in two situations - newly married couples where only person brings a bunch of debts into the relationship, and longer established married couples where only one of the spouses accumulated debt over time, oftentimes for joint household living expenses.
